There has been a book market in my town today! They were selling used books in English for reduced prices! I though I'd share the books I've adopted today :)
I've heard a lot of good things about all of them, so I'm really happy to have found them. And look at this cute vintage postcard they gave me as a present! Very appropriate!
Sooo guys and gals, which one do you think I should start with? (As soon as I finish the stuff I'm already reading, of course) :)
Oh I looooooved A Prayer for Owen Meaney. I gave a copy to my mother and she loved it so much she bought me a copy forgetting I had given it to her. What goes around comes around, I guess.
ReplyDeleteWe had a lot of book sharing with my friends at school, and my mom still finds at home some books that are definitely not ours, but I have no idea whose are they. And who knows how many of our books live at my friends' homes? It was an awesome time :)
DeleteI've also read A Prayer for Owen Meany and it was a very interesting experience, the book kept growing on me long after I finished it to the extent that when I finished it I thought "What a nice book, but what's with the hype?" and a few months later I was like "Awwww that was *such* a great book!" - I hope you'll like it too.
ReplyDeleteIt was actually your review that came to my mind when I saw the book, so you are the one responsible for this particular purchase :) It sounds like a very unusual book, and I like everything unusual! It's just so big that it has to wait until summer :)
DeleteTo be honest, I actively disliked One Day. I liked the writing, but I hated the story. Maybe you'll like it though.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the movie a couple of years ago and quite liked it, so I hope I will not have any problems with the story :) I just thought I want to read something romance-y for a difference :)
DeleteI'd suggest starting with The Passage. It's creepy and weird and keeps you locked in.
ReplyDeleteWell, the cover is also suitably creepy, so I'm prepared for some really weird content! :)
DeleteNice loot! I've read only The Graveyard Book out of all of these and I quite liked it. Not loved, but liked it. I think it's one of those books that confuse me what their target audience might be. I'm planning to attend a library sale soon, if all goes well, so your post is getting me antsy to dig through piles of used books already!
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the sale, Andrea! I also always look hungrily at what other people buy... I just with the sales happened oftener :)
