And the second one is my loot from Vancouver bookshops:
Unlike any normal girl, these were practically the only shops I visited, and they were amazing!
I'm hoping to get back to normal reading and blogging soon. I still have a Gatsby review to write, and I'm finishing Good Omens and Mutiny on the Bounty. So see you soon!
Glad you enjoyed your trip. I hope you didn't have any trouble with excess baggage getting your book haul back home.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
Ha! I also bought an ice-cream maker, so books were not the biggest of problems :) Thanks, I'm pretty sure I'll like most of the books, if I just find time to read them :)
DeleteI think I'm your kind of "normal" girl - planning the trip to Prague now and I've already searched some bookshops, the others don't really interest me either :) I really want to read "Watership Down", too.
ReplyDeleteOh, there must be a lot of bookshops in Prague, but I doubt there are plenty of English books there. And if there are some, they are usually pretty expensive :( Never bought a book in English in Czech shops, always through the Internet. But try googling second-hand bookshops, although most of the things are in Czech, I've heard that they have great atmosphere there.
DeleteP.S. How come I'm not yet subscribed to your blog? O_o You have lots of amazing stuff there! I'm correcting it right away! :)
Thehe. Good point you make about the English books, but I was mostly looking for the atmosphere, indeed (I don't want to be tempted to necessarily BUY books to drag back with me in the luggage :)) and I found at least one nice-looking place which was a mix of cafe-diner and bookshop. And I'll definitely look for second-hand shops, thanks for the tip!
DeleteThanks for checking out my blog, it's always so nice to meet people with similar book-interests :)
Visiting bookshops in foreign/other cities is so much fun! Lugging them back in your suitcase, not so much. ;)
ReplyDeleteI've only been to Vancouver once, we had a 5-day stopover there when we first moved to Canada, it was late January (2006) and Vancouver in winter is so horrible! I got depressed after three days of constant rain (I normally love rain) and overcast skies, it was bleak. That was before I saw how bleak Toronto can get in winter!
I've read three of the books on your loot pile, and I have Wolf Hall and the Gormenghast trilogy to-read too. I got old cheap secondhand copies of the Gormenghast books too; at the time it hadn't been re-released by Vintage I think. I used to watch the BBC adaptation over and over again while I was living in Japan (rented from the video shop), I loved it so!
Well, we had constant rain on 5 days out of 7, but for me it's not such a big problem, as I'm from St.-Petersburg (the Russian one) and I'm very used to the rain :) Besides, this mild rainy climate is the reason they have such amazing nature there!
DeleteI've heard so much praise for all the books in the pile, so I'm really looking forward to all of them. And as I'm already finishing Good Omens, I can say that at least this one lives up to my expectations :)
